The two leading Magic Millions contenders put their credentials on the line in separate races at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Boom colt Sizzling contests the Phelan Ready Stakes while Snipzu is scheduled to start in the fillies division, the Calaway Gal Stakes, with both races over 1000m.
Sizzling was the $3 favourite in TAB Sportsbet’s first markets issued on Tuesday for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on January 14 with Snipzu at $4.
The Kelso Wood-trained Sizzling lived up to his name on debut at Eagle Farm, beating Dansonate by six lengths.
Snipzu is more experienced, having had three starts beginning with a second to Hussousa in the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick on October 1.
Prepared by Liam Birchley, Snipzu won her next two starts that month by a combined 10-1/2 lengths and was then rested.
Both Sizzling and Snipzu ran second in recent conditioning barrier trials.
There has been some early support in the Magic Millions for $26 chance Urban Groove from the Gai Waterhouse stable.
As yet unraced, Urban Groove won a barrier trial at Warwick Farm late last month and is scheduled to make her debut in the $200,000 Magic Millions race at Wyong on Thursday week.
TAB’s third favourite Driefontein ($5) is also from the Waterhouse camp and has returned from a short break since her debut win on November 5.
Sydney winners Amorino, Fundido and No Looking Back are at $7 with Breeders’ Plate winner Pierro at $9 rounding out those under double figures.
The Sydney-trained two-year-olds already hold an advantage over their Brisbane counterparts who race for a little over half the prizemoney with earnings to determine the final positions in the field for the Magic Millions Classic.
